Follow our suggested drive through the natural beauty & riches of the Western Algarve and Serra de Monchique Mountains. Highlights: Luz Bay , a fine sandy beach & Mirage Bar (open in the evenings). The village of Burgau , once a tiny fishing village, has a lovely beach, Burgau beach bar & Smugglers Bar.

Sagres was once considered the end of the world. is well worth exploring. It has a commercial fishing harbour and some boats that take day trippers.

Cape St. Vincent is the western most tip of Europe . From the gigantic cliffs you can watch the fishermen trying their luck and imagine the boats that once left from here to discover the new world. It was here at Cape St. Vincent that Sir Henry The Navigator established his Navigation School to train the sailors the discovered the new world! The old fort is open to visitors throughout the year.

Remote west coast beaches, each with individual character are marked on the map. Driving from Aljezur to Monchique takes you across the peaks of the Monchique Mountains . Monchique is a delightful mountain town with traditional crafts shops. Caldas de Monchique is a unique mountain spa & the source of the Monchique bottled water. Enjoy the lovely central square & walk to the source of the waters. Just south of Caldas is the new Omega Park Zoo , housing endangered species on an international breeding program, a must to visit! If you still have the energy, shopping in Luz & Burgau on your return gives you the opportunity to spend the rest of your money!
