Vilamoura is one of the most well known of the Algarve's Holiday hotspots. As one of the newer developments along the coast and just a short drive from Faro, Vilamoura is probably most famous for its four Championship Golf courses, but this popular destination certainly has alot more to offer everyone.
Vilamoura Marina
The centre of the resort is a quadrangle
of rather exclusive 4 and 5 star hotels, based around an
idealic yachting Marina. Excellent for a stroll, the Marina
offers some very exclusive shops and is most certainly
the place for eating and drinking, throughout the day and
night. The Marina is also the place to organise your day.
There are Water sports centres where you can arrange a
multitude of different activities including sailing, windsurfing,
jet skis and absailing to name but a few. You can arrange
car hire, exchange your money or organise your day trips.
Why not try out one of the many great boat and catamaran
cruises available from the Marina or simply enjoy a delicious
ice cream while you watch the sun go down across the yachting
masts.
The Beaches
The resort of Vilamoura offers two
great beaches, one on either side of the Marina. Both are
on the flat and are therefore very easily accessible. The
busier of the two is Marina Beach to the east of the Marina
where you can hire sun beds, parasols and take advantage
of the beach bars. From this golden sandy beach you can
paddle in the surf all the way to the neighbouring resort
of Quarteira, where there is a weekly Gypsy Market every
Wednesday. You can barter for bargains in Leather, shoes,
clothes and handicrafts. On the western side of the Marina
is Falesia Beach, where real enthusiasts can stroll all
the way along to the beaches of Albufeira.
Sporting Activites
With four courses available Vilamoura
is often described as Golfers paradise. Your Hotel reception
will be able to arrange tee off times on your behalf and
the hire of equipment and courtesy transport are available.
Don't forget your handicap card as you will need to show
this, especially during the winter season. Real enthusiasts
will no doubt enjoy the Roma Golf Park crazy Golf
with a real Roman feel atmosphere! This has no doubt been
inspired by the excellent Roman ruins which have been lovingly
preserved in the resort of Vilamoura.
The Old Village area
at the back of the resort is well worth the short trip from
the centre and is close to the Tennis Centres of Four Seasons
and The Rock Garden. Vilamoura also boasts a Lawn Bowling
centre, a shooting range, driving ranges and a riding centre.
Nightlife
There is something for everyone in
Vilamoura. If you are eating out then you will be spoilt
for choice as there are a number of great restaurants,
from the more exclusive to fast food that the whole family
can enjoy. There are many bars and most offer entertainment
from Karoke to live music and exciting cocktails. If you
fancy a flutter then you will enjoy the Casino where you
can also catch Dinner and a Top International Cabaret throughout
the year. If you are into Clubbing then the casino is also
home to one of the Algarve's top night spots, where you
can dance the night away to the latest club tracks.
