Phoning into and out of Portugal
There are a variety of ways to make phonecalls from the Algarve, such as making use of public payphones (requires the purchase of a calling card). The cheapest alternative is to visit a "phone centre" (a business with lots of phone booths). You can also use your mobile, however international roaming charges can be expensive. Portugal is on a direct-dial phone system, meaning that area codes are always used, even for local numbers.
